Coastal Cuisine

Eating out in Savannah often involves the enchantment of stepping back into history and enjoying some good old-fashioned hospitality.

Day 1

First stop: The Savannah Visitor Information Center and Savannah History Museum showcase the city’s history from its founding in 1733 to the present day. Inside, you can see exhibits about the Revolutionary War Battle of Savannah, rare dugout canoes from the 1800s and a changing exhibit of women’s fashions from the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum is also home to Forrest Gump’s bench, one of Johnny Mercer’s Oscar Awards and a carriage owned by the family of Girl Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low. Other exhibits include weapons and military uniforms, as well as items from Savannah’s railway history. Visitors may also enjoy our plush theatre and film presentation, "Savannah the Survivor."

Savor Savannah: Foody Tours of Savannah is a guided, audio/video enhanced food tour, where your group will learn about Savannah and the South's rich culinary history while sampling authentic flavors from seven local eateries that offer the most delicious and unique dishes, including Paula Deen's Lady and Sons. As you make your group makes its way through the historic neighborhoods, they will view movie clips pertaining to food, photos and TV clips of the locations on large LCD screens, previewing what they are going to taste when they arrive at the eateries. Their journey may include a delicious tasting of artisan baked goods, shrimp and grits, bbq (chicken, beef or pork), collard greens, macaroni and cheese, southern honey pecan fried chicken, various specialty chocolates, homemade ice cream, baby Scones, and iced-tea. Most of the locations have been featured on the Food Network, Travel Channel and Turner South, and now we bring them to your group in person. Yum!

It’s Showtime: Make it a memorable night and experience one of the city’s theatre presentations. From spectacular live musicals to local theatre and special performances, your group will be amazed by the abundance of talent that prevails in our small city.

Day 2

Wine & Dine: Today you will take a winery excursion to one of Savannah’s wineries perfect for touring and tasting. Your group will be nicely surprised by the variety of our award-winning wines! Starting with the Butterducks, a small farm winery located in nearby Effingham County. What may have started as a hobby has now turned into the love of wine and winemaking. The winery’s goal is to make fine wines from the fruits of Georgia. They offer deluxe tastings to visiting groups with the options of a tank tour and wine and cheese reception.

Exquisite wine, breathtaking sunsets and good company are all specialties at Meinhardt Vineyards & Winery. Whether your group is sitting out under the pergola, taking a tour of the grounds or browsing the tasting room, they guarantee a pleasurable experience.

Your group covered a lot of ground on today and may want to have a casual bite to eat before retiring for the evening. Savannah’s historic River Street and City Market have all types of casual and upscale dining options. Seafood, steaks and light fare can all be found in the restored cotton warehouses that are home to some of Savannah’s favorite restaurants and pubs. We can help you determine which restaurants are particularly group friendly!
