A celebration of rich culture.

Savannah salutes African American culture and offers several poignant venues to experience and celebrate the past and present. Attend service at the oldest African American congregation in America, First African Baptist, which once served as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Experience the colorful Gullah tradition that dates back to African-Americans slaves. And visit The Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum.

Enjoy works by African American artists from the Savannah area at the Beach Institute African-American Cultural Center. See interesting African American artifacts at King-Tisdell Cottage. And join us every February as Savannah hosts the Black Heritage Festival, celebrating the cultural and artistic contributions of African Americans.

Come explore the rich heritage of Savannah.
